A story that began in the Renaissance
The Castle of san Michele, originally Castel di Piero, was founded in 1100 by the condottiere Piero Baglioni.
The family territory progressively expanded to northern Lazio . The family supported Florence in the famous battle of Anghiari and the Popes for centuries . Taken over in 1520 by another arm of the family allied with the Medicis, it was partially rebuilt in Renaissance style and later given to Catherine de Medicis. It was then progressively decorated by the Baglioni ,┬á Medicis, Farnese and Colonna ladies until its sale to the Prince of Montholon, the close follower of Napoleon who also lived there, who accompanied him at Sainte H├®l├¿ne. The Prince has left us his throne room. The castle has recently been renovated to welcome guest and is perfect for guest who like to be surprised by hidden doors and secret corridors. The palace and old castle are at the very end of the San Michele in Teverina village, in the Viterbo Countryside. around a quiet square and enjoy a stunning view on the valley and village.
